Eagle Therapy Services (ETS) will be offering Hippotherapy Sessions with a Speech-Language Pathologist in Gilford, NH for children, teens, and adults to develop cognitively (attention/memory/problem solving), academically, socially…and have FUN!
Hippotherapy is a treatment strategy conducted by a licensed therapist (PT, OT, SLP) that utilizes equine movement as part of an integrated intervention program to achieve functional outcomes.
All current or newly referred clients of Eagle Therapy Services, ages 19 months to adult, are eligible for this program. The initial evaluation of any prospective participant involves reviewing the completed intake forms and an individual assessment of the participant by a licensed therapist, by appointment.
Gunstock Hill Farm
The hippotherapy program for Eagle Therapy Services is located at Gunstock Hill Farm in central New Hampshire's Lakes Region. The farm is situated on a gently sloping hillside that overlooks Lake Winnipesaukee. We are around the bend from Gunstock Resort, Mount Major Hiking Trail, and Ellacoya State Park. Residents and tourists flock to the area for many outdoor experiences including sailing, boating, swimming, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking, and biking.
Externships are available for students accepted or enrolled in programs of Communication Disorders and Sciences, Speech-Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Mental Health, Veterinary, Equine Studies, or related fields. Both Undergraduate and Graduate program candidates are welcome to apply. Licensed therapists are also welcome to apply for continuing education.
Experience with horses is not required, all externship participants will complete a comprehensive orientation process prior to working with our program's clients or therapy horses.
Extern Skill sets should include, but not limited too:
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to work in a busy, high energy environment.
Ability to safely lift 50 pounds.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients.
Ability to walk safely for extended distances on uneven terrain.
Ability to work in all weather conditions, including inclement weather.
Ability to follow all safety precautions and procedures for the benefit of self, staff, clients, and horses.
Externships are awarded as follows:
1. One day per week for 5 or 10 weeks, June 18 through July 27 and July 30 through August 24. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays.
2. Two Full Weeks of four days per week (MTThF) for a total of 8 days. Lodging on site or nearby is available if desired, please inquire.
Additional Salary Information: Therapists actively licensed and insured in NH may be eligible for a stipend for a 10-week placement, please inquire. License/degree not required for externship placement, please apply if interested.
