Director of Research
Summary Description: The Division of Head and Neck Surgery and Communication Sciences at the Duke School of Medicine seeks applicants for the position of Director of Research to direct and advance its thriving research enterprise. The ideal candidate is a nationally or internationally respected researcher, MD or PhD or other doctorate degree, with the skills necessary to develop an integrated collaborative academic strategy that meaningfully engages the research institutes, hospitals, the community, industry and other Departments and programs. The ideal candidate will have his or her own research portfolio and a skill set that compliments and extends the capabilities of the Division. Expertise in epidemiology, health policy and health economics would be reviewed favorably. Speech Pathologists, audiologists that have their doctoral degree and a research portfolio are encouraged to apply. Epidemiologists and or candidates interested in the communication sciences and population health are also welcomed. Prior NIH funding and knowledge of the NIH is desirable but not an absolute requirement.

Academic appointment will be commensurate with qualifications.

Supports programs for resident research education and faculty mentorship
Identify key thematic research areas for HNS&CS investment and advancement and strategies to achieve balance in our investment of trainees and faculty
Advocate for the efficient and ethical conduct of research efforts of faculty members across all sites, e.g. streamlining of administrative processes, including research ethics review, contracts, data sharing agreements, etc.
