The Department of Speech Pathology at Xavier University of Louisiana, a Historically Black Catholic University located in the heart of New Orleans, invites applicants for a full time, tenure track nine month Associate Professor/Professor position beginning August 2018.
Founded in 1925 by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, Xavier is Catholic and historically Black. Located in New Orleans, the ultimate purpose of the University is to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society.
Qualifications include a Ph.D., CCC-SLP and eligibility for Louisiana state licensure with a research program in or related to the communication sciences or disorders. Special areas of interest include individuals with teaching and research expertise in: adult language, speech science, voice or fluency. Candidates should demonstrate a strong research agenda and experience and interest in faculty development and mentoring. Additional desirable qualifications include demonstrated success in obtaining extramural grant support, a commitment to innovative teaching and curriculum, and the desire to work with or experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse clinical populations and a diverse student body. The successful candidate will provide leadership to the recently-approved Master’s program as well as leadership to the process for accreditation of this program.
The Department of Speech Pathology currently offers the undergraduate major and minor in Speech Pathology, and is in the process of implementing the recently-approved Master’s program. Undergraduate seniors have the opportunity to enroll in two semesters of clinical practica. Off campus collaborations include the Orleans Parish School Board and the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System. Xavier encourages cross-disciplinary collaborations with faculty from various areas, including biology, chemistry, public health, neuroscience, and psychology.
