TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY (REF#17.18-07) EFFECTIVE DATE: Mid?August, 2018
THE POSITION: California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) seeks Tenure Track faculty for an academic year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor who has expertise and qualifications in child language and/or literacy development/disorders. The successful applicant may teach in both the MS, BS, and Preparation programs through face to face and online modalities. This individual will also be expected to mentor students, serve on culminating experience committees as chair and/or member; develop and maintain a research program; serve on department, college and university level committees, and supervise graduate students in clinical placements. As part of a growing department within the College of Education, Health and Human Services, the successful candidate will serve an important role in the ongoing success of the MS and development and advancement of the BS and preparation programs, and will enhance the education of students through experiential learning and simulations. CSUSM has become one of the fastest growing campuses in the CSU system. When completed (projected for 2030) the CSUSM campus will accommodate 25,000 full-time students on a 304-acre campus. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in a field appropriate to Speech-Language Pathology. ABD candidates will be considered, but must have completed the doctorate at the time of appointment (August 2018). Candidate must have California SLP State License and ASHA CCC (or eligibility to obtain both). The successful candidate has experience in teaching adults in face to face and online instruction at the MS and/or BS level, and must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with colleagues on an ethnically and culturally diverse campus. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop and sustain a rigorous path towards retention, tenure and promotion as described in CSUSM policy. DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Expertise in multicultural populations or bilingual language development is desired. Preference will be given to bilingual candidates who may be able to support supervision of graduate students with bilingual/bicultural populations. CSUSM places great value upon the development of educational and research partnerships within the community and candidates with a history of interprofessional collaboration and/or community?based collaboration are desirable. Philosophical alignment with the Department of Speech-Language Pathology Mission is desirable. (SW) and Public Health (PH). The department of SLP offers a Master of Science (MS) in SLP. In addition to the MS degree, the department of SLP offers a fully online post baccalaureate certificate, and a face to face Bachelor of Science in SLP. We serve approximately 250 students across all programs.Special features of our department are that all full time faculty have their CCC’s, continue to practice clinically, and have a strong student-centered perspective. Graduates of our program consistently comment on how engaged and committed the faculty are to the success of the students. The faculty incorporate innovative teaching techniques including community involvement, service learning, skills assessment, simulations, and inter-professional experiences. The CSUSM Speech-Language Clinic, which opened its doors in July 2014, provides free services to over 50 adult clients annually. The majority of the clients at the university clinic present with neurological disorders, including: aphasia, motor speech disorders, and cognitive-communication deficits and are in the chronic phase of recovery. The vision of the university clinic is to promote wellness, quality of life and independence through a Life Participation Approach to Aphasia (LPAA) model.
