RESPONSIBLE TO: Rehab Services Director/Supervisor
JOB OVERVIEW: The position requires current Speech-Language Pathology skills to evaluate, plan, implement and delegate a comprehensive plan of care. Provide therapy in a comprehensive manner to meet the needs of the patients with a safe discharge plan. Re-assessment/re-evaluation of the patients/clients and functional abilities are essential functions of this position. Excellent communication with all types of patients/clients. Ability to assess the impact of simple to complex therapeutic modalities and procedures as outlined in the patient/client plan of care. Assistance with the completion of comprehensive treatment programs, discharge planning and family/caregiver training is a requirement of the position. Employment of excellent communication with the Clinical Partner and other members of the health care team is a requirement of the position. An understanding of VMC/Rehab Services Policies and Procedures, state/federal regulations and guidelines allow for appropriate provisions and billing of services. Program development, quality improvement, staff development, marketing, team leadership and delegation and student/volunteer supervision skills are also components of this position.?

PREREQUISITES: Current or in process of a Washington State Speech-Language Pathologist license.
Must have experience with Modified Barium Swallow
Current Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA
Current American Heart Association BLS/CPR for health Care providers

UNIQUE PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS: (See Generic typical physical/mental demands, environment and working conditions) Occasionally to frequently requires transfer of patients weighing up to or exceeding 200 lbs. needing maximum assistance from bed to wheelchair and back to bed. Ability to recognize own limitations with regards to load handling and regularly seeks assistance when demand of transfer or lift exceeds individual physical abilities. This position requires talking, standing, sitting, walking, crouching, and bending for extensive periods of time. These physical skills are required to assist patients/clients in transportation to various locations on the VMC campus for patient evaluations, treatments or discharge. This position requires hand dexterity to use evaluation tools and operate equipment (i.e. computer, small instruments, screening devices and test materials, etc.). Must be able to lift, carry a minimum of 40 pounds to complete patient care responsibilities.?
